LEF ANNOUNCES THIRD ANNUAL FALL FUNDRAISER

The Lagniappe Education Foundation will host its third annual Fall fundraiser on the evening of Thursday October 27, in downtown Washington, DC.  As always, the event will include food, drink, entertainment, and a silent auction of several items generously donated by New Orleans and Washington DC-area businesses and craftspeople.  The fundraiser is free-of charge and all proceeds will further our mission of providing scholarship assistance to college-bound graduates of New Orleans' Edna Karr High School -- a two-time recipient of the Department of Education's Blue Ribbon Schools Award.  In fact, this year's event will feature Bonnibel Rosario, a 2011 Edna Karr graduate and LEF scholarship recipient who is now a freshman at Georgetown University.  For more information, please contact LEF President, Cleveland Lawrence III, at cleveland.lawrence@lagniappefoundation.org

LEF PRESENTS 2010 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS!

On Monday May 17th, LEF President Cleveland Lawrence III presented the foundation’s first two scholarship awards, during Edna Karr High School’s “Parents’ Night” dinner and awards ceremony for the class of 2010. LEF Treasurer Jessica A. Sandoval accompanied Cleveland on the trip to New Orleans, and the event was a resounding success.

The two renewable $1000 scholarship awards were presented to Edna Karr seniors Jahquille T. Ross and Paul N. Thomas. Starting this fall, Jahquille – Karr’s salutatorian – will attend Tuskegee University in Alabama, while Paul will attend The University of Louisiana at Monroe in Monroe, Louisiana.

Earlier in the day, Cleveland also met with all of Karr’s returning students during a school assembly, to inform them about LEF’s scholarship program and to encourage them to apply for scholarships when they are seniors.

LEF LAUNCH A HUGE SUCCESS!

On Thursday, October 29, 2009, the Lagniappe Education Foundation hosted a launch party and inaugural fundraiser, in Washington, D.C.  About 75 guests attended the event, including several staffers from Representative Joseph Cao's office—Congressman Cao serves Louisiana's 2nd congressional district, which covers much of New Orleans. Attendees were treated to a New Orleans-themed party, which featured spoken word and musical performances by New Orleans native Webo, and a silent auction that included photographs of people and places in New Orleans, as well as numerous items donated by individuals and companies throughout the Washington, D.C.-area.  LEF plans to host a similar event in New Orleans in Spring 2010, which will coincide with the announcement of our first scholarship awards.
